I asked the other day that if students can bring in a pair of headphones that would be very beneficial to some of the tasks that we will be doing down the road.  Today each students got their own Chromebook, hopefully we will be able to keep these Chromebooks for the rest of the year, but at least for a little while we have them.  Thanks to Mr. Morrison for this.

Monday, September 21, 2020

Here is the homework for this evening:

Math - students given a worksheet  today (on the Google Classroom also); students are to go over the math sheet to see if there is anything that they may not understand with the work that is going to be assigned.  Students will be given time in tomorrow's math period to complete this worksheet on GCF and LCM.  Daily multiplication corrections.

Parents:

Was wondering if you could get  some more supplies for your child.  What I am looking for is that each student has his/her own set of headphones.  Also if you could get a headphone jack splitter.  We only have a limited amount of Chromebooks  right now and we may have to share from time to time to watch a couple of videos.  With headphones it will assist in bringing down the noise level in the class and also help the students focus with  the task at hand.  Thanks for  your  assistance in this matter.

That's all for this evening.  Have a good night.

Sept 10 & 11

 Welcome back!

Good evening.  I have received numerous questions from students and parents regarding what school supplies the students may require this year.  Here is a small list.

Chromebooks - if you borrowed a Chromebook last spring during the COVID lock out, please bring it back to the school.  You student will continue to use that Chromebook in the classroom.  This is important because we will be ensuring that the students know how to use Google Classroom and how to get and submit assignments in the, hopefully unlikely event, that we have to remain at home again for a short period.

Personal devices - if you have a personal device at home, either a laptop or tablet, that you would like your child to use at school, the school still has the Bring Your Own Device program and you are welcome to bring that device to the school and we will get it hooked up with our system.  Please do not feel that students have to bring a device, we will provide.  This is voluntary only.

Essential supplies:

Pencil crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks - simple art supplies.  We are not suppose to be sharing items, thus bringing your own will ensure that this followed.

I would recommend a water bottle.  Drinking fountains will not be used this year.  We do have some filling stations for water bottles.  Students will be allowed to have a water bottles on their desk during the course of the day and allow to refill it.

Calculators - I have some calculators in the classroom, but not enough for every student.  If you purchase a calculator, do not purchase an expensive one.  This is not necessary.  The calculator that I use regularly, I bought from the dollar - 15 years ago.  The only recommendation that I have for calculators is that they have the square root symbol/ability.

A novel - we will be doing daily reading.  I would like the students to have a novel (chapter book) at their reading level.  This novel may be either purchases or borrowed from the library.  Tablets with the Kobo book app, or similar, may also be brought in.

School Supplied:

At the school, we will supply the students will notebooks, duo-tangs and paper; pencils and pens.  You are welcome to get your own, but do not feel obligated, the school will supply these items.

Parents:

If there is anything that may be required in the future, I will give you ample notice.  If you would like to receive an email notification for updates from this blog, please sign up with your email below this post.  Emails are sent out in the evenings at 7pm.  Sorry I cannot change the time.

Looking forward to an excellent year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me here at the school or via email (david.ross@sccdsb.net); and I would be more than happy to address them.  Hopefully, sometime in the near future, we may have the opportunity to meet face-to-fact.  Until then, have a great weekend, stay safe and God bless.
