Parents:

It is important that we work with the students to ensure that they stay on top of the work that is published in the Google Classroom.  This is important in the event that we experience another COVID shutdown.  Unlike last spring when this occurred, students are going to be expected to work on the Google Classroom in the event that a lockdown occurs.  We hope that this allows all of us to continue with your child's education, with little disruption to curriculum, in the event that we cannot attend school.

The  Google Classroom is also important so that students, if they are away for an extended period due to illness, as has been occurring; a student can still manage to keep up with the work that is being done in the class daily.

With the Google Classroom students  are going to need to know how to access, create and submit assignments.  We are practicing this everyday hoping to develop your child's expertise with the program.  Please encourage your child to work with this program as much as possible when they are at home.  Thank you.  Your efforts in this matter are greatly appreciated.

That's all for this evening.  Have a good night.

Mr. D. Ross

Sept 10 & 11

 Welcome back!

Good evening.  I have received numerous questions from students and parents regarding what school supplies the students may require this year.  Here is a small list.

Chromebooks - if you borrowed a Chromebook last spring during the COVID lock out, please bring it back to the school.  You student will continue to use that Chromebook in the classroom.  This is important because we will be ensuring that the students know how to use Google Classroom and how to get and submit assignments in the, hopefully unlikely event, that we have to remain at home again for a short period.

Personal devices - if you have a personal device at home, either a laptop or tablet, that you would like your child to use at school, the school still has the Bring Your Own Device program and you are welcome to bring that device to the school and we will get it hooked up with our system.  Please do not feel that students have to bring a device, we will provide.  This is voluntary only.

Essential supplies:

Pencil crayons, markers, scissors, glue sticks - simple art supplies.  We are not suppose to be sharing items, thus bringing your own will ensure that this followed.

I would recommend a water bottle.  Drinking fountains will not be used this year.  We do have some filling stations for water bottles.  Students will be allowed to have a water bottles on their desk during the course of the day and allow to refill it.

Calculators - I have some calculators in the classroom, but not enough for every student.  If you purchase a calculator, do not purchase an expensive one.  This is not necessary.  The calculator that I use regularly, I bought from the dollar - 15 years ago.  The only recommendation that I have for calculators is that they have the square root symbol/ability.

A novel - we will be doing daily reading.  I would like the students to have a novel (chapter book) at their reading level.  This novel may be either purchases or borrowed from the library.  Tablets with the Kobo book app, or similar, may also be brought in.

School Supplied:

At the school, we will supply the students will notebooks, duo-tangs and paper; pencils and pens.  You are welcome to get your own, but do not feel obligated, the school will supply these items.

Parents:

If there is anything that may be required in the future, I will give you ample notice.  If you would like to receive an email notification for updates from this blog, please sign up with your email below this post.  Emails are sent out in the evenings at 7pm.  Sorry I cannot change the time.

Looking forward to an excellent year.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me here at the school or via email (david.ross@sccdsb.net); and I would be more than happy to address them.  Hopefully, sometime in the near future, we may have the opportunity to meet face-to-fact.  Until then, have a great weekend, stay safe and God bless.

Mr. D. Ross
